MKTG 347 Week 3- Pros And Cons of Facebook Pages

In 2004, Mark Zuckerberg started Facebook to connect with Harvard students. Today Facebook has evolved into a social media platform that connects people to individuals and companies. Facebook pages are one of the tools used for social media marketing. A Facebook page can be about anything: an artist, band, author, movie, non-profit organization, and more.  “The Marketing Novice”, a Facebook page I created, discusses the marketing learning experience of a novice. Facebook pages have advantages and disadvantages.

Flexibility and awareness are advantages of Facebook pages. Flexible posting capabilities allow for a variety of posts: text, images, and videos. According to 99designs’ article, "9 Digital Marketing Trends to Get Ahead of In 2022", short videos are the number one trend of 2022. Short videos can be made by anyone with access to a recording device like a smartphone. Videos are a quick and simple way for users to digest content. Flexibility allows for a variety of posts. Facebook pages are an excellent way to gain awareness for the topic of the page. When a user likes a post, the page's posts appear on their feed. For example, the “Disney +” Facebook page has about 5 million likes. Facebook pages are another promotional method besides a website. A Facebook page has its own web address that can be used for promotional materials. Content from a website or blog can be posted on a Facebook page.  Facebook pages have flexibility and provide awareness.

Facebook pages have audience limitations. According to Meg Barry’s article, “10 Powerful PPC Platforms That Will Skyrocket Your Sales [Guide]”, a majority of active Facebook users are between the ages of 25 and 34. Facebook pages are not ideal for a younger target audience. Achieving widespread notice by using a Facebook page can be costly. After the page’s post appears on the user feed, the user is not guaranteed to view the post. According to Introduction to Social Media Marketing, the admin can track the number of people that had the page’s post on their feed. To increase the number of people seeing the page’s post, money must be paid. Facebook pages have some weaknesses.

Facebook pages have advantages and limitations. Flexible posting capabilities and awareness are advantages of Facebook pages. The audience's age and engagement are possible disadvantages. Overall, learning about Facebook pages is a great starting point for beginners in social media marketing.
