MKTG 347 Week 10- Organic and Paid Social Media Marketing

Figuring out the best ways to promote a company through digital advertising varies. An artist promoting their art may start by posting their artwork on Instagram. The craft supply store Michaels could use paid advertising on Google to promote a sale on oil paint. Organic and paid marketing have similarities and differences that can help marketers decide the best route.

Organic social media marketing is free and maintains relationships with customers. The image below is an example of an organic Facebook post. According to Page Cooper’s article “Paid vs. Organic Social Media: How to Integrate Both Into Your Strategy”, organic social media marketing includes free content shared through posts. Organic posts reach the social media account’s followers, possibly the friends of followers that shared the post, and people following a hashtag in the post. Word of mouth, when people share content, is the holy grail of organic marketing. Individuals share excellent content, products, or services that can boost interest. Organic Marketing facilitates a relationship with customers. A brand or company’s presence can be established or nurtured. Customers can be supported and maintained through rapid customer service. Organic social media marketing is a free way to maintain an online presence.

Paid social media marketing uses bidding strategies and facilitates new customers. The image below is an example of a paid advertisement on Facebook. Cooper further discussed the basics of paid social media or online advertising. Online advertising occurs when businesses pay for their ads to target specific audiences on PPC (pay-per-click) platforms, such as Google or Facebook Ads. Meg Berry discussed PPC platforms in “10 Powerful PPC Platforms That Will Skyrocket Your Sales [Guide]”. PPC advertising charges advertisers when an ad is clicked. Each platform has their own bidding strategies. For example, Facebook has both automated and manual bidding strategies. PPC advertising allows businesses to target new and specific audiences based on interests, demographics, behaviors, location, and more. Advertisements reach a broader audience that can become potential customers. The two marketing types have differences and similarities.

Organic and paid social media marketing are alike in a few ways. The two marketing types are used for digital marketing to promote a company, brand, product, or service. Both organic and paid marketing is trackable. Cooper highlights platforms’ built-in tools and third-party tools, such as Hootsuite, that can track both paid and organic digital marketing. Hootsuite can track return on investment (ROI) and provide data information to improve the content, ad, or budget. The two marketing types have similarities and differences.
